Opportunity Through Sport

SportLink Greater Sudbury Sport Council has been in existence since June 2003 and moved to the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation office in August 2005.

Since this time, SportLink has been working with and promoting over 200 local sports groups. On June 28th   SportLink officially launched our new website www.sportlink.ca that will allow sport groups and local citizens to access information about the sporting community here in Sudbury.

SportLink’s mission is to utilize sport as a means for economic and community development by facilitating events, providing leadership and educational opportunities, advocating communication and cooperation between community partners.

Recently SportLink hosted the first Annual Canada Games Day event at Laurentian University for over 500 elementary students in Grades 5 through 8. Fifteen sports groups led three twenty-five minute sessions of fun filled drills and skills in their respective sports. The main goal of the day was to promote physical activity and encourage youth to try a new sport.

SportLink also hosts leadership and educational workshops such as BodySense: Positive Body Image for athletes, Cultural Sensitivity, Media Relations, and Track and Field Officials Clinics.

In the fall, Guts and Glory 2: Speaker Huddle and Luncheon will take place on Friday November 16th from 12- 2 p.m. at the Holiday Inn 1696 Regent St. Our keynote speaker will be Ray Zahab, the Ultra Distance marathoner who ran 111 consecutive days over 7000 km across the Sahara Desert. More information on Ray can be found at www.rayzahab.com
